What are you listening to?

or what’s been most recently played on your ipod/mp3 player/pc/mac/phonograph?

Right now I’m rockin’ out to Jimbo’s suggestion: “Christ 0” by Vanden Plas. This album kicks ass – its a prog album but without all the bullshit characteristics (flashyness/showing off) of modern prog.

I think “Wish You Were Here” is probably my favorite track although I just started listening to this alum yesterday. I can probably be persuaded otherwise.

+1 for Vandan Plas

Also, I’ve been listening to the newest Murder by Death album (Red of Tooth and Claw) and The Ties that Blind by Mouth of the Architect.

Once the Soundtrack

I have been inspired by the folky stylings of Glen Hanssard who starred and wrote the films music. It makes me want to pick up a guitar again and start writing. That way I can stumble upon the lyrics in a notebook years later and laugh at all the crap I wrote. Love that, hehe.

Punk as Folk

I’ve been listening recently to the Paistes/Hail Seizures split ep “Punk as Folk” which is a delight. I saw them at the Grand Manor recently and really enjoyed the energy. Also a lot of Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza and Job for a Cowboy.

What the folk?

Theres a Flight of the Conchords album now which is amazing. I can’t recommend these guys enough and their “stand up” is hilarious.

Basically its 2 guys playing guitars and singing bizarre songs about robots, naughty time (business time), and David Bowie.

not Pizza – PizzaOLLA!

Been listening to Astor Piazzolla recently…its been awhile since I gave him a listen but it’s still amazing.

Stream audio off his site here http://www.piazzolla.org/sounds/own.html in some serious low quality.

Piazzolla is famous for “haunted tangos” so if you dig that check it.

Fantasy Metal.

I am long lost in Epica’s “The Divine Conspiracy” as well as Symphony X’s “Paradise Lost”. Since I saw them in concert I can’t tell you how friggin epic their stuff is. It turns out I have a thing for Symphonic Metal. Go figure…

Some new jazz

“Continuo” by Avishai Cohen is great. I got it a few months ago, listened to a it a lot, and then forgot about it. Found it again today- so good!

Rockin the Rock Band Soundtrack

…er, kind of. BIG fan of Coheed and Cambria now. “Welcome Home” is a superfantastic song on Rock Band and so I downloaded the album. Highly reccommend :)

Oh the Coheed…

Coheed’s newest album is just as good as “Welcome Home” I highly recommend that album as well. It’s a great sequel to their prog-rock saga.

last.fm finds…

Last.fm just found me a gem with a band called At War With Self.

Yes, its a stupid name but the band has Michael Manring in it who is an unreal bassist.

+1 for Cohen

“Continuo” was a staple in my daily music in San Andres. Thanks for burning that for me Jim.

And today, Tin Hat Trio for me too! Makes a nice change from all the Funeral/Sludge Doom I’ve been listening to recently.
