Pizza Pot Pie?

So I’m planning on taking my lady-friend to Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co. tonight.

I’ve never been there but judging from their site it looks pretty ridiculous. They have what they call a Pizza Pot Pie which looks just like it sounds and some crazy sandwiches and HUGE salads.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Awesome

Okay, Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co. was great. We ate almost everything on the menu although we didn’t get a grinder. We got the smallest salad on the menu but it was huge and easily fed 3 of us. The padre made me get a 1 pounder of the pizza pot pie. It was really really really good but theres no way I could ever finish it.

Okay this pizza pot pie thing. Its essentially a small cup type dish that they layer with cheese, sauce, meat, 2 mushrooms, and you can pick white of wheat bread to put on top. They cook it, bring it out to your table, and then flip the whole thing upside down. Upside down it really looks like a mushroom. Anyways, it was great and you should definitely get one. Just get the 1/2 pound guy.

After all that we got their only desert. TORTONI. This creation from the gods tastes like butterscotch ice cream almost. Here’s the description from their site: “An Italian frozen cream dessert, flavored with rum and crushed macaroons and sprinkled with finely crushed toasted almonds. Made exclusively for the Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Company.” My suggestion is to save room for this guy.

Also we went there very late (about 10pm) on a monday night –also st patricks day. I could imagine this place getting very crowded very quickly.

I’m not a fan of Deep Dish.

I particularly do not enjoy the super big deep pizza. I’m a thin crust guy. Plus I can just stack multiple pieces of thin on top of each other if I ever want to go deep. You know what I mean? Ya dig?

Agreed.

New York Style is the best. Hard to find in Chicago though.

You’re not a real man nor a real Chicagoan unless you like pizza that is over 3 inches thick.
